Consultation

You may attend Health Is Here nutrition services as a Private Client, a Medicare EPC Client or a Department of Veterans Affairs Client.

As a private client, it is not necessary to obtain a referral from your doctor to make an appointment. However, Medicare clients who are eligible for an EPC plan must provide their paperwork before visiting our dietitian. For clients with private health insurance, please check with your insurance provider to see if you are eligible to claim a rebate via your ‘extra’s cover’.

What to expect from a dietetic consultation

The Initial appointment takes 45min to one hour and following visits are 30 minutes in duration.

Much of the first hour is spent taking a detailed medical, social, diet and lifestyle history. We also explore your present food intake patterns, likes & dislikes, meal times, activity output, lifestyle and most importantly your current health and wellbeing goals.

The Dietitian and the client work together, gradually adjusting areas which need modification, setting realistic goals, finding tools for motivation, discussing nutrient needs, food composition, shopping and cooking skills, eating out, meal/snack patterns and other topics of relevance, depending on medical conditions or individual needs.

Following visits, when required, are spaced at fortnightly intervals or longer, as appropriate for each client.

The duration of time a client will require ongoing appointments with the Dietitian depends on the individual needs and is usually discussed at the initial session.
